๐ Build an elevator
An elevator moves you between aligned floors. It needs no command or instruction sign: build it by placing the right blocks. ๐งฑ
๐งฑ Build two stops
- On the lower floor, place a redstone block with a quartz block above it. You will stand on the quartz.
- On the upper floor, repeat the same pair of blocks in exactly the same column.
- Leave room for your feet and head at both stops.
- Keep the stops at most 40 blocks apart. Start with a short test before building an entire tower.
Side view of two stops. At each stop, quartz goes above redstone. The column represents travel between floors; you do not need to fill the gap with blocks. Both stops must line up.
โฌ๏ธ Go up and down
Stand on the quartz and jump to reach the stop above. Sneak to reach the one below. On a computer these are usually Space and Shift; on mobile or a controller, use Minecraft's jump and sneak controls.
Carpet-over-redstone combinations also work, such as red carpet + redstone block. If you do not know the combinations, start with quartz: not every decorative block works.
๐ If it does not take you to the next floor
- Check that you used a redstone block, not redstone dust.
- Check that both stops share the same horizontal position.
- Make sure the destination has room for a player and is within the allowed distance.
- Test in a place where you can build and use the blocks.
Do not test it by jumping into a hole: stand on its surface. Build safe flooring around it first and keep a staircase while checking that it works. A stop does not grant access to someone else's land.
