๐ŸŽจ Chat colours and bold text

You can add colour and formatting to messages you type in Minecraft chat if your account has that benefit. Type the code before the text: you do not need an editor or a name change. ๐ŸŽจ

โœ๏ธ Start with a colour

  1. Open Minecraft chat.
  2. Type &aHello and send it.
  3. If you have chat colours, other players will see Hello in green, without the &a code.

The rank benefits table lists chat colours from King upwards. Drake includes them too. Bold chat is listed for HYP. Having colours does not automatically unlock bold or all other formatting.

๐ŸŒˆ The 16 colours

Use & followed by a number or a lowercase letter. A colour affects the text after it until you type another colour.

Code Colour Code Colour
&0 Black &8 Dark grey
&1 Dark blue &9 Blue
&2 Dark green &a Light green
&3 Dark aqua &b Light aqua
&4 Dark red &c Red
&5 Dark purple &d Pink / light purple
&6 Gold &e Yellow
&7 Grey &f White

Try &eHello &afriends: Hello will be yellow and friends will be green. Use &f to return to white within a message.

๐Ÿ”ค Bold and other formatting

If your account has chat formatting, these are the codes chat understands:

Code What it does Example to type
&l Bold. This is a lowercase L, not the number 1. &lHello
&o Italic. &oHello
&n Underline. &nHello
&m Strikethrough. &mHello
&r Resets previous colours and formatting. &lHello&r friends

To combine a colour and bold, put the colour first: &a&lHello&r friends. A new colour can remove previous formatting; add &l again after the new colour to keep bold.

๐Ÿงฉ The codes stay visible or the text does not change

  • Check that you used & and lowercase letters, without a space inside the code.
  • Check the benefit in the rank shop. Typing a code does not grant access.
  • These examples are for in-game chat. The website, tags and rank names have their own designs.
  • Chat does not convert custom RGB colours or gradients such as #ff8800, or the random-text effect &k. Use the codes in this guide.

The /nick nickname is a separate feature: you do not need to change it to send a coloured message. If a benefit you own should work but does not, open a support case with the code you tried and the game mode.
